Zwei: Sustainable Designs in Step with the Times
Founded in 2006 by two school friends from Darmstadt, the brand initially focused solely on bicycle bags that combine functionality and design. Although initially well received, the innovation met with limited success due to a market that wasn’t yet ready. Nonetheless, it didn't take long for the company to become a success story. The reason? The Zwei bags, which—despite affordable prices—stand out with their attractive designs and sustainable quality.
Uncompromising Quality Across All Products
Fewer and fewer customers in Germany are interested in products that don’t align with sustainable practices. Manufacturers seem to take this seriously—as shown by Abro and GOT BAG. Abro is a German family business from the 1930s that uses leather certified by the Leather Working Group. GOT BAG mainly uses Ocean Impact Plastic, contributing to cleaning our waters. Zwei also places great emphasis on sustainability, opting for vegan alternatives instead of leather. The result: Despite affordable prices, all products are excellently crafted.
Zwei Bags
If you're looking for a functional, sustainable, and vegan bag, you'll appreciate Zwei's range. All models combine these three aspects. Selections include:
- Waist bags
- Handbags
- Shoulder bags
- Shoppers
- Crossbody bags
In particular, we want to highlight the women’s crossbody bags from the brand. They were crucial to Zwei’s success. Zwei crossbody bags like the MADEMOISELLE.M have sold over a million units, making them sought-after bestsellers. Their popularity is also reflected in numerous awards. Notable features include spacious inner compartments, adjustable straps, and practical zip closures.
Zwei Backpacks
Opting for a Zwei backpack means choosing a simple yet fully functional daypack designed for urban life. Most models focus clearly on city usage—but the unisex backpacks, with separate compartments for water bottles and everyday items, sturdy and water-repellent materials, and reliable closures, also serve well for travel or hiking. Roll-top models are especially popular, allowing flexible adjustment to your luggage volume.
Zwei Accessories
In addition to luggage items such as bags and backpacks, the brand offers a wide range of accessories—including wallets and toiletry bags. As expected, Zwei’s wallets are made from vegan materials. Yet, the difference from traditional wallets is barely noticeable, as the frequently used faux leather closely mimics real leather in look and feel. The same artificial leather is often used in the toiletry bags. But it's not just design that makes the accessories stand out—functional features like a hand strap for secure grip elevate these toiletry bags above the competition.
Sustainability and Responsibility at Every Level
Sustainability is deeply embedded in the company's DNA. A quick glance at their awards makes that clear. Zwei has received multiple specialist retail accolades. In 2024, the study “Fashion Bags 2024” even ranked them second among non-leather bag brands. This honor is just one small testament to the brand’s comprehensive management approach.
Consistently High-Quality Materials
From the choice of materials, the company clearly distinguishes itself from many competitors. It’s not only about the commitment to veganism but also about environmental and climate protection. For instance, they don’t use just any nylon—rather, recycled nylon made from old fishing nets, ropes, and lines. This recycled nylon is far more eco-friendly than conventional nylon, as it consumes less energy during production. Other materials used include cotton fabric, cord, Hydroflex, synthetic fabric, and faux leather. Cord is particularly interesting: as a fabric made of cotton and polyester, it delivers both a distinctive look and high durability.
Offsetting CO₂ Emissions and Ocean Plastic
Most people know that corporate CO₂ emissions and marine pollution are massive problems—but too little is being done to address them. That's why Zwei not only engages in CO₂ and ocean-plastic offsetting themselves, but also encourages customers, retailers, and partners to participate. Retailers can choose whether to add a small contribution per product. For 18 cents per item, money is invested globally into various climate protection projects. For 46 cents per item, ocean plastic is removed. Funds go entirely to First Climate and Plastic Free Planet. This applies to both Zwei's bags and other products.
Optimized Logistics Processes
Before a product like a Zwei backpack reaches you or another customer, it goes through numerous logistics steps. These processes consume significant resources—so it’s wise to make them as efficient as possible. DPD handles this task with an electrified fleet and deliberate use of renewable energy, minimizing the carbon footprint.
